Report Window

Overview: Viewing the Results of a Compilation or Simulation in the Report Window

You can view the results of a compilation or simulation in the Report window. The Report window opens automatically when you compile or perform a timing or functional simulation on a design entity or an entire project. During a compilation or simulation, the Report window coninuously updates with new information. If you stop a compilation or simulation, the Report window contains only the information created prior to the point at which you halted the compilation or simulation.

There is a separate Report window for each of the current Compiler settings and Simulator settings you compile or simulate. If you run a timing analysis during compilation, you can view the timing analysis results in the Compilation Report window. If you perform a timing or functional simulation without first compiling the design entity or project, the Simulation Report contains the Compilation Report sections for the related Compiler settings.

Report window information is displayed in one of the following forms. The icons that represent the Report window forms are defined in Images of the Compilation & Simulation Report windows.

For information about a specific Report Window section, go to Report Window & File Format.

The Quartus® II software automatically creates text versions of the Report window and can generate HTML format versions of the Report Window. To generate an HTML-Format Report File, turn on Automatically generate HTML-Format Report File (.htm) after compilation or simulation in the Processing Options tab of the Options dialog box (File menu). You can open these Text-Format Report Files (.rpt) and HTML-Format Report Files (.htm) in the Quartus II software, or you can open a Text-Format Report File in a text editor or an HTML-Format Report File in any HTML browser. You can also create Report Files that contain only the sections you specify, or save an automatically generated file with a new name so the Quartus II software does not overwrite it during the next compilation or simulation.

If you want to save a Report window section for future reference or for use in other software tools, you can save a Report window regular table or delay table as a Tab-Separated Value File (.txt) or a Comma-Separated Value File (.csv), save a delay table or speed performance table as a Timing Analyzer Output File (.tao), or save a Report window Messages, Simulation Waveforms, or Logical Memories section.

You can also copy text, a chart, regular and delay table cells, an entity name in a hierarchy, a row in a speed performance table, all the text in the Summary section of a Compilation Report, or a message, and paste this information into any file that supports bitmaps or text.  More Details

You can open a Report window using the Compilation Report or Simulation Report command (Processing menu), the Open Report command (right button pop-up menu) in the Status window, or the Open Report button on the Compile or Simulate toolbar.

You can view a section of the Report window in the Section window by using the Report Window Contents and the commands in the View menu.

NOTE

You can view multiple sections of a Compilation or Simulation Report at the same time; however, the New Window command (Window menu) you use to view multiple sections is dimmed to indicate that it is unavailable when you have the Simulation Waveforms section (Simulation Report) open.
